Welcome to The Simple Truth. I’m Julie Carruth.

Where do you put your trust? If you’re like many people, you say you put your trust in God, but when the trials come and the money runs out, what do you do?

We have been working our way through the book of James learning that God sends trials to test our faith, and it seems that there’s no greater test of our faith than with money.

We read from James 1:9-11 in the NIV, “Believers in humble circumstances ought to take pride in their high position.  But the rich should take pride in their humiliation—since they will pass away like a wildflower.”

So what’s the simple truth here?

What James is saying when he writes “Believers in humble circumstances ought to take pride in their high position” is that if you don’t have a great amount of wealth you should take pride in the truth that YOU are a Child of the King with endless riches for eternity due to your faith in Jesus Christ,

So what about when James says that the rich should take pride in their humiliation? I mean, that’s a little harsh wouldn’t you say?

I believe what James is saying here is that you should be glad in the fact that God has humbled you through trials (for example, maybe you’ve lost your job, or you’ve lost a great deal of wealth in the stock market) Why should you be glad in that? Because God has revealed to you that only true riches come from Christ.

So, what about you? Where IS your hope? What would happen if all your worldly riches disappeared today? As we have learned through our study of James, your response to these trials will reveal to your true nature and what you truly believe.

So you’re simple truth today: Whether you are rich or poor, there’s only ONE place that we can securely place our trust.  And that’s the Simple Truth.
